Lancaster Agentic or Netstock: which fits your purchasing team?
Last updated
Netstock is established supply and demand planning software: planners work in its own web dashboards, and it connects to a long list of ERPs. Lancaster Agentic is a purchasing agent: a buyer asks in ChatGPT, Claude or Slack what to reorder, gets a quantity for each item with the reason behind it, and can have a purchase order created in the ERP.
What is the main difference between Lancaster Agentic and Netstock?
The main difference is where the work happens. Netstock is a planning application with its own interface, built for planners who manage forecasts, safety stock and orders from a dashboard. Lancaster Agentic has no separate dashboard: you ask a question in a chat you already use, and the agent answers with a reorder list and, when you tell it to, creates the purchase order in your system or, for other systems, gives you the PO lines to enter.
Netstock calls itself "a cloud-based inventory and demand planning solution" and says it serves small to medium-sized businesses and enterprises. Its product page covers demand planning, inventory forecasting, inventory optimization, ordering and replenishment, supplier performance, and sales and operations planning, with planning across multiple locations. Its own guide calls the dashboard the planner's "central workspace".
Lancaster Agentic reads sales history, stock on hand, open purchase orders, vendors and lead times from your ERP, works out what each item needs, and replies in plain language. It also builds a workbook with one row per item, so a buyer can check the numbers before anything is ordered.
How do they compare side by side?
Choose Netstock if you want a dedicated planning application for a team of planners; choose Lancaster Agentic if your buyers would rather ask for a reorder in ChatGPT or Claude (or Slack, for EBMS) and have the PO created for them.
| Question | Lancaster Agentic | Netstock |
|---|---|---|
| Approach | A purchasing agent you ask in ChatGPT or Claude, or in Slack for EBMS | Planning software with its own web dashboards |
| ERPs | EBMS, Business Central, Acumatica, Odoo, NetSuite; QuickBooks Online, Xero, Zoho Inventory and Shopify, set up with you on a call | A long list on its integrations page, including NetSuite, Acumatica, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, SAP Business One, SYSPRO, Epicor and Fishbowl |
| Purchase orders | For EBMS, Business Central or Odoo, creates the PO in your ERP when you tell it to; for other systems, gives you the PO lines to enter; nothing goes to a vendor until your team sends it | Generates suggested orders; its integrations page says they can be imported into the ERP with one click |
| Explaining each line | Each item has a quantity, the inputs behind it, and a sentence naming the forecast method used | Dashboards that rank the items needing attention, with forecasts and safety stock in the application |
| Planning scope | Purchasing: what to order, how much, from which vendor | Broader planning: demand plans, inventory optimization, supplier performance, S&OP, multi-location |
| Setup | Every system starts with a short setup call | Its site says most customers are running within 4 to 6 weeks; another page says 90 days or less |
Which ERPs does each one work with?
Netstock lists more ERPs than Lancaster Agentic does. Its integrations page names over thirty systems, among them NetSuite, Acumatica, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, SAP Business One, SYSPRO, Epicor, Fishbowl, Cin7 Core, MYOB, Unleashed and Spire. In 2024 it announced a certified Business Central connector listed on Microsoft AppSource.
Lancaster Agentic works with six systems today:
- EBMS: runs in production for EBMS companies, in Slack, ChatGPT and Claude. See Lancaster Agentic for EBMS.
- Business Central, Acumatica and Odoo: the connection is built and tested against test systems for each ERP, and we connect it to yours with you during setup.
- NetSuite: the connection is built; we test it against your NetSuite sandbox with you before go-live.
- QuickBooks Online, Xero, Zoho Inventory and Shopify: we set it up with you on a call.
EBMS, Odoo and QuickBooks Online do not appear on Netstock's integrations page today.
How does each one explain what to order?
Lancaster Agentic shows its working for every item. Each row has the stock available, what is already on order, the sales forecast, safety stock, lead time, days of inventory left, the expected stockout date and the suggested PO quantity, plus a sentence naming the forecast method used for that item.
The default method checks how often each item sells. Items that sell most months use a trailing average of recent demand; items that sell only now and then use a method built for spotty demand. The order target covers the lead time plus your safety-stock days (60 days by default, adjustable per vendor), plus the EBMS Minimum if you turn Minimums on, rounded up to the order increment.
Netstock presents its recommendations in dashboards. Its guide describes a view that ranks the items needing attention, such as a likely stockout, excess stock or a late supplier, and shows stock, incoming supply and demand across warehouses together.
How do purchase orders get created?
With Lancaster Agentic, you review the suggestions, then tell it to create the PO, and it is created in your ERP (EBMS, Business Central or Odoo). Nothing goes to a vendor until someone on your team sends it. In Slack, EBMS teams can also schedule a weekly reorder or daily stock check that posts to the channel.
Netstock generates suggested orders inside its application. Its integrations page says those orders are imported into the connected ERP with one click.
When should you choose Netstock instead?
Netstock is the better fit in several real situations:
- You have dedicated planners. If your team wants one screen to manage forecasts, safety stock and exceptions every day, a planning dashboard suits that work better than a chat.
- You need planning beyond purchasing. Netstock covers demand planning, supplier performance and S&OP. Lancaster Agentic focuses on what to order.
- You run many warehouses. Netstock plans across locations and has a module that suggests transfers of idle stock from one site to another before you buy more.
- Your ERP is on its list and not ours. Netstock integrates with SYSPRO, Sage, SAP Business One, Epicor, Fishbowl and many others that Lancaster Agentic does not connect to today.
- You want a long-established product. Netstock's site reports more than 2,400 customers and shows G2 badges.
When is Lancaster Agentic the better fit?
Lancaster Agentic fits when the person buying is not a full-time planner. A buyer or owner can ask "what do I need to order from Ironwell Tools this week?" in ChatGPT, Claude or Slack, read the reasons, and have it create the PO (or, for other systems, list the PO lines to enter), without learning a new application. It is also a fit for EBMS and Odoo users, and for QuickBooks Online, Xero, Zoho Inventory and Shopify users.
